Empiezan a verse los primeros efectos de la compra de los gaseros de Maersk por parte de Teekay: Cambio de nombre a los 2 primeros del pack.

A quick change of colours for Maersk LNG fleet

Teekay and Marubeni Corporation could close their combined $1.4 billion buyout of the eight-vessel Maersk LNG fleet as early as the end of this month.

The fleet is set to be renamed Malt LNG following the change of ownership, according to transition plans being outlined by the partners. The 138,270-cbm Maersk Ras Laffan (built 2004) will be renamed Ras Laffan Spirit and become the first vessel to be handed over to Teekay Marine Management in February.

The 145,130-cbm Maersk Qatar (built 2006) will follow as the Qatar Spirit in March. The intention is that all the ships will have been transferred to Teekay's management by the end of June, although staff acknowledged the schedule could slip a bit. Teekay is not planning any flag or class changes for the vessels. The LNG carriers will be owned and operated by the Glasgow-based Teekay Gas Services business unit.

A transition project team has been set up for the job, which is currently inspecting all the ships and visiting existing vessel charterers. A Maersk employee is also expected to be seconded to Teekay for the duration of the process.

Teekay is keen to hold on to all the masters and senior officers sailing onboard the fleet. The company has offered an incentive package but several staff complained they have been given a very short time to sign.
