Cuidado - chatarra flotante

Parece que cuando un barco viejo se vende para chatarra y se da cuenta el comprador que tiene partes áltamente contaminantes, lo mejor es marear la perdiz a ver si se le pierde la pista:

Quick-change artist heading for breakers

A former Sonatrach controlled LNG carrier sold on for demolition over a year ago is inching its way towards the breakers' beaches in India.

The former 40,850-cbm Hassi R'Mel (built 1971), which was renamed Mel last year, has now sailed under the name Supreme. Electronic data recently showed the vessel, which had been anchored off the Algerian coast near Arzew, as in the Suez Canal region with its destination recorded as India.

The ship is listed as controlled by Dubai-based cash buyer Argo Systems. It is due to arrive at Bhavnagar on 15 November. Supreme is believed to contain significant quantities of asbestos and other hazardous substances.

Industry players said the frequent name changes are likely to be an attempt at disguising the ship's identity for a final scrap voyage that might raise environmental concerns.

If it reaches India before the end of this year the vessel will be the second LNG carrier to be sent for demolition in 2010. The 39-year-old Hassi R'Mel was first reported sold by Sonatrach's shipowning arm Hyproc Shipping in January 2009. The vessel was said to have fetched around $360 per ldt after being marketed for sale for much of 2008.

The new owner was said to be considering making repairs but the ship appears to have lain idle.

When she smashes open the hand he sculpted for Maura,
it is a real hand. The other two arrived
on the theater and bought four tickets since they had
no idea if we had already arrived.
