CARNIVAL TO PAY $3M

US cruise line must compensate passenger for fall on pool deck of Carnival Pride.

US cruise line Carnival Corp will have to find nearly $3m in compensation for a passenger who broke a kneecap on one of its vessels.

Denise Kaba says she suffered the accident on the pool deck of the 86,000-gt Carnival Pride (built 2001) in 2009.

She filed a personal injury lawsuit against the shipowner. According to the complaint, Kaba slipped as a result of the use of a resin surface on the deck.

US district judge Ursula Ungara awarded $2.998m in damages, including more than $220,000 in past medical expenses, nearly $375,000 in future medical expenses, just over $170,000 in loss of earning capacity, $200,000 for pain and suffering in the past and nearly $2m for future non-economic damages.
