Canadian shipowner Teekay LNG has finalised a deal to buy Exmar's 50% interest in two LNG vessels.
Teekay is paying $70 million for the stakes in the 138,000-cbm LNGregasification vessel Excelsior (built 2005) and the 138,000-cbm LNG carrier Excalibur (built 2002). The ships are fixed on long-term time-charter to Excelerate Energy, which owns the other 50% in the two vessels, but Exmar will remain responsible for their management and operation.
The Belgian company said the deal will generate a profit of $52 million. Teekay will pay for part of the deal by issuing 1.1 million shares to Exmar. Meanwhile, third-quarter net income at Teekay LNG soared to $23.9 million from $17.6 million in the same period of 2009.
The company tied the jump to the contributions from recently acquired vessels, including two LNG
carriers purchased last year.
