Gate LNG in Rotterdam received its first commercial cargo on-board the 267,335-cbm Bu Samra (built 2008) yesterday.German utility RWE is said to have bought a shipment from Qatar before sending in the volumes on the Q-Max sized vessel.

The 12 billion cubic metres per annum Gate terminal is owned by Vopak and Gasunie.First-phase off-takers RWE-Essent, E.ON Ruhrgas, Dong Energy and a joint venture of OMV and EconGas each signed up for 3 Bcma of LNG from the project over 20 years. One of these, RWE, is already planning to sell some of its import slots this year and in the near term, according to Bloomberg.
